Rock Stock and Barrel

If you grew up listening to bands such as: UFO, Judas Priest, Rush and Black Sabbath. If you saw: AC/DC and the The Scorpions at the Hammersmith Odeon. If you used to rush out to get the latest double live album from Whitesnake or Quo and spend ages reading the big cardboard sleeve. If you bought Sounds every week and remember Geoff Barton and Gross Halfwit, then we have just the place for you.

Rock, Stock and Barrel is a classic rock club night dedicated to the genre of classic rock where the the riffs are pounding, the solos sublime and the singers can destroy a charging rhino at a thousand paces. It’s a place for all fans of the music young and old to enjoy.

Maybe as time has moved on and vinyl changed to CD your old albums vanished into the loft  or boot sales but if you occasionally wish you could listen to that old Budgie or Free album then come on down we probably have it here and yes we have the proper big vinyl discs not just CD reproductions. You can fondle through the covers to your hearts content and request whatever you want as long as it’s good and heavy.

It’s not just for folks who remember it first time around though. Maybe some of you discovered the music through your parents collections or perhaps you looked beyond Slip Knot or System and found where their roots came from and discovered you liked it. Whatever your reasons if you like rock then come along.

The evenings will comprise 2 bands playing around 45 minutes each and may be a mixture of covers and originals but all classic rock style. In between the bands a classic album will be played in its entirety. Each month’s album will be voted for at the previous month. Apart from that there will be a mini fun quiz based on the featured album with a prize of a few beers or similar and the sound system will be set up to play classic rock tracks all night.

So if you want to go somewhere that takes you back to the days of listening to the Tommy Vance show in the shed on a Friday night with a packet of Players No 6 and a few cans of beer you and your mates managed to blag from the offy, trying not to skin your knuckles getting the expansion box onto your fizzie, this is the place.

Each club night will be on the second Friday of the month from 8pm at the Mill Beach public house,
Goldhanger Road, Heybridge, Maldon, Essex CM9 4RA. Telephone 01621 852650 or check on www.myspace.com/millbeach for more details.
